Jihlava - a silver town from the past.
In the Middle Ages, silver mining made Jihlava one of the wealthiest towns in the Bohemia Kingdom (see also Kutna Hora).
Many historic landmarks showing the former glory of the city are still visible today. Massive walls engineered to defend the town are still standing, and Jihlava has one of the largest ancient squares in Central Europe. Religious monuments erected during the mining boom (Gothic Church of St.James, Dominican Monastery) and burgher houses are still intact.
Tip: Don't miss the second largest labyrinth of underground corridors in the Czech Republic, found beneath the city.
Today Jihlava is the centre of the region and can be visited during your stay in Telc, or on your way from Prague to Brno.
